Matchday 2 – 24 August 2025
Real Madrid continued their strong start to the La Liga season with a 3-0 win over Real Oviedo on Sunday, thanks to a brace from Kylian Mbappe and a late goal from Vinicius Junior.
For Oviedo, returning to Spain’s top flight after nearly 25 years, hosting the 15-time European champions was a memorable occasion, with fans creating a lively atmosphere in the stadium.
Madrid coach Xabi Alonso made a few changes from the opening 1-0 win against Osasuna, resting Vinicius and Trent Alexander-Arnold while welcoming back club captain Dani Carvajal. Vinicius, coming off the bench, quickly made an impact with an assist and a goal. Teenager Franco Mastantuono also made his full debut, showcasing his dribbling skills and flair.
The game’s first goal came in the 37th minute, when Arda Guler set up Mbappe, who calmly slotted the ball past Oviedo’s keeper Aaron Escandell. Madrid maintained control in the second half, despite Oviedo hitting the post through Kwasi Sibo.
Mbappe doubled the lead late in the match after a clever pass from Vinicius, who then wrapped up the scoring in stoppage time, finishing a composed move set up by Brahim Diaz.
With this victory, Real Madrid remain unbeaten and look set to continue their strong La Liga campaign.
