Thrilling Action Marks Men’s Softball Kickoff at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu
The World Games 2025 got off to an electrifying start in Chengdu, China, with men’s softball headlining the opening day at the Xindu Better City Softball Arena. As fans eagerly await the Opening Ceremony, the competition already delivered edge-of-the-seat excitement.
Venezuela Walks Off Argentina in Dramatic Fashion
In a thrilling finish, Venezuela secured a dramatic 3-2 walk-off victory against Argentina. Down to their final strike, Franklin Benitez kept hopes alive with a clutch single. Then, Pedro Flores smashed a game-winning two-run home run over the center field wall, giving the reigning world champions a memorable start to the tournament.
Argentina took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, but Venezuela cut the deficit in the fourth with a solo homer from Engelbert Herrera. The real magic, however, came in the final inning with Flores’ powerful finish.
Maiker Pimentel was stellar for Venezuela, pitching the entire game with 10 strikeouts and allowing just two runs. Argentina’s Huemul Mata took the loss despite a strong showing.
Singapore Stuns Australia in Upset Victory
In another standout match, Singapore shocked two-time world champions Australia with a 10-9 win. Singapore raced ahead with a three-run third inning, followed by a six-run explosion in the fourth, led by standout performances from Huzaifie Bin Mohamad and Shun Kai Cheoh.
Australia mounted a comeback, scoring five runs over two innings, but ultimately fell short in a tightly contested battle.
Postponements Announced
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the first two matches of the day—USA vs. Canada and Czech Republic vs. Japan—were postponed. Organizers have assured fans that updated schedules will be released soon.
