Sindh Govt & Pakistan Railways to Launch Modern Suburban Train Service Between Rohri and Sukkur
In a major step toward improving public transportation in Sindh, the provincial government has partnered with Pakistan Railways to launch a new suburban train service connecting Rohri and Sukkur.
During a recent high-level meeting, Sindh Energy Minister Nasir Hussain Shah and senior railway officials discussed plans to extend suburban rail routes beyond Karachi and introduce modern commuter services in interior Sindh. Inspired by the Lahore suburban rail model, the new RohriβSukkur line aims to serve millions of daily passengers across the province.
Priority Route Finalized
The RohriβSukkur rail line has been identified as a priority development route. A joint committee will oversee planning and coordination between the Sindh government and Pakistan Railways to ensure smooth execution of the project.
ML-1 & Green Development
The meeting also reaffirmed full cooperation on the Main Line-1 (ML-1) upgradeβPakistanβs largest railway infrastructure project. Officials discussed the modernization of railway stations, safety improvements at level crossings, and the development of green belts to enhance the environment around train stations.
Karachi Circular Railway Concerns
Minister Nasir Shah voiced concern over the delay in the Karachi Circular Railway (KCR), citing that while the Sindh government has fulfilled its responsibilities, Pakistan Railways has yet to remove encroachmentsβcausing unexpected delays in project completion.
A Game-Changer for Public Transport
The upcoming RohriβSukkur suburban train service could play a crucial role in reducing urban congestion, cutting travel times, and promoting eco-friendly transport in Sindh. This marks a major move toward modern, efficient, and reliable public transport systems beyond Pakistanβs largest cities.
Stay tuned for more updates as this transformative project unfolds.
