Nooh Dastgir Butt Set to Return to International Weightlifting After Resolving Dispute with Federation

In a major boost for Pakistan’s weightlifting scene, heavyweight lifter Nooh Dastgir Butt is set to make a long-awaited return to international competition. The development comes after the resolution of a prolonged dispute between Nooh and the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWLF).

The 2022 Commonwealth Games gold medalist had been absent from both domestic and international events due to disagreements with the federation. These differences stemmed from concerns regarding the treatment of his father, a respected figure in the sport, and Nooh’s affiliation with a rival organization. As a result, the +109kg category — where Nooh had established himself as a leading talent — had been without its top competitor.

However, according to sports journalist Muneeb Farrukh, both parties have now reached an understanding. Nooh is expected to rejoin national training camps in the near future, with his focus firmly set on upcoming major competitions.

This positive development brings renewed hope for Pakistan’s prospects in international weightlifting. Alongside Olympic javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem, Nooh Dastgir Butt is considered one of the country’s most promising medal contenders in global sporting events.

With his return, Pakistan’s weightlifting team gains not just experience and strength, but also a significant morale boost ahead of key tournaments.
