Ongoing Gaza Conflict Leaves Dozens Dead, Thousands Injured

3, 2025 | Updated about an hour ago

Israeli airstrikes across Gaza on Thursday left at least 52 people dead, according to local hospitals and rescue agencies. Among those killed was an employee of the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders (MSF).

Civilian Casualties Reported

Local medical officials stated that fatalities occurred in different parts of Gaza, with 10 deaths in Gaza City, 14 in central Gaza, and 28 in southern areas. Hospitals confirmed receiving the bodies, noting that some victims died in airstrikes, while others were injured by drone fire and gunshots.

The Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis reported nearly 30 deaths, including people waiting for food distribution. The Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah received nine bodies following several strikes in surrounding neighborhoods.

A 26-year-old MSF staff member, Omar al-Hayek, was among the victims. Four other MSF staff members were also injured, according to the organization.

“Enough killings — whether targeted or not, this is unacceptable,” said Karin Huster, head of the MSF medical team in Gaza.

WHO Raises Alarm Over “Life-Changing Injuries”

The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that nearly 42,000 people in Gaza — including a quarter who are children — have suffered “life-changing injuries” over the course of the conflict. These include amputations, spinal cord injuries, brain trauma, and severe burns.

  • More than 5,000 people have undergone amputations, with children disproportionately affected.

  • Blast injuries to arms and legs remain the most common, while facial and eye injuries are leaving lasting impacts.

  • WHO warned that rehabilitation services are severely limited due to ongoing insecurity and displacement.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus emphasized that the most urgent need now is access to medical rehabilitation.

“Just when they are needed most, attacks, insecurity, and displacement have put these services out of reach,” he said.

Humanitarian Concerns Continue

As the conflict enters another phase, humanitarian organizations continue to call for urgent medical access and the protection of civilians. With thousands facing long-term disabilities, the crisis highlights the need for sustained rehabilitation support and international cooperation.
