Over 337,000 Pakistanis Secure Overseas Jobs in First Half of 2025
ISLAMABAD – In a positive development for Pakistan’s workforce and economy, over 337,000 Pakistanis have gone abroad for employment in the first six months of 2025 alone, according to the latest data released by the Bureau of Emigration and Overseas Employment (BEOE).
As of June 30, 131,817 foreign jobs remain available out of a total of 275,669 opportunities, while 143,854 have already been filled, showcasing the increasing demand for skilled and semi-skilled Pakistani workers in global markets.
📊 Decades of Progress in Overseas Employment
Since its establishment in 1971, the BEOE — an attached department of the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (MOP&HRD) — has successfully registered over 10 million Pakistanis for employment abroad. The most significant outflow occurred in 2015, when a record 946,571 workers found overseas job placements.
🌍 Driving the National Economy
Overseas employment continues to serve as a critical pillar for Pakistan’s economy, helping reduce unemployment, support development initiatives, and generate foreign exchange to ease debt servicing and import bills. Remittances from overseas Pakistanis remain one of the largest sources of foreign currency inflow.
🛫 How the Bureau Facilitates Overseas Employment
The BEOE operates as a regulatory authority, overseeing and facilitating the emigration process through:
-
Licensing and monitoring of Overseas Employment Promoters (OEPs)
-
Direct employment facilitation through individuals’ personal efforts
-
Management of 7 Protectorates of Emigrants Offices
-
Pre-departure briefings and mandatory insurance for emigrants
-
Signing MoUs with foreign governments to boost manpower exports
-
Operation of the State Life Emigrants Insurance Fund (SLEIF)
📋 Data-Driven Policy Making
The Bureau also plays a vital role in data collection, analysis, and reporting on Pakistani workers abroad — a key input for national planning and policy formulation by the Economic Division and other governmental departments.
The ongoing efforts by the BEOE are not only helping Pakistani citizens find better job opportunities abroad but also enhancing the country’s global reputation as a reliable source of skilled labor.
