Pakistan and Turkiye Explore Launch of Ferry Service to Boost Maritime Cooperation

Pakistan and Turkiye are considering the launch of a ferry service between the two countries as part of their efforts to enhance maritime cooperation and strengthen economic ties.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting between Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry and Turkiye’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloglu. Both sides emphasized the importance of expanding collaboration in shipbuilding, ship operations, and the shipbreaking industry, alongside improving maritime connectivity.

Minister Junaid Anwar highlighted the investment potential of Gwadar Port, describing it as a key gateway for blue economy projects. He invited Turkish investors to explore opportunities in port-based industries, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to transforming Gwadar into a modern logistics and maritime hub that will boost regional trade and economic growth.

The minister added that partnership with Turkiye would help Pakistan strengthen its technical capacity and open new trade routes. He noted that both countries share strong bilateral relations and are eager to enhance cooperation in shipping, logistics, fisheries, and port development.

Turkish Minister Abdulkadir Uraloglu welcomed Pakistan’s proposal for the ferry service and confirmed that Turkiye’s Transport Ministry will review the plan. He also announced that a Turkish business delegation comprising shipowners and port service providers will soon visit Pakistan to explore investment opportunities in Gwadar Port.

This potential collaboration marks a significant step toward deepening maritime and economic ties between Pakistan and Turkiye while promoting regional connectivity and sustainable trade.
