Pakistan Wins Team Trophy at World Youth Scrabble Championship, 7-Year-Old Makes History

KUALA LUMPUR – Pakistan reaffirmed its status as a global Scrabble powerhouse by winning the Team Trophy at the 20th World Youth Scrabble Championship (WYSC) in Kuala Lumpur, marking the country’s sixth triumph at the prestigious event.

A historic highlight came from seven-year-old Taimoor Waseem, son of renowned Scrabble grandmaster Waseem Khatri, who stunned competitors to become the Under‑8 world champion. His remarkable achievement earned admiration from international officials and fellow players, instantly making him one of the youngest rising stars in global Scrabble.

Pakistan’s dominance extended across other age categories as well:

  • Ahzam Siddiqui claimed the Under‑16 world title.

  • Muhammad Yusuf won silver in the Under‑10 category.

  • Bilal Ashar finished runner-up in the Under‑16 division, further boosting Pakistan’s medal tally.

This year’s championship was the largest in WYSC history, featuring 226 players from 20 countries, highlighting the scale of Pakistan’s success against some of the world’s best young talent.

Looking ahead, the Pakistani team will compete in the Gateway Masters Cup from September 5–7 in Kuala Lumpur, aiming to continue their winning streak on the international stage.

With another team crown and standout individual performances, Pakistan continues to set the benchmark in global youth Scrabble.
