Pakistan Independence Day National Ranking Tennis Tournament Kicks Off in Islamabad

Islamabad, August 26, 2025

The Pakistan Independence Day National Ranking Tennis Tournament began on Monday at the PTF Tennis Complex, bringing together 110 players across nine categories to celebrate the country’s 78th Independence Day.

The week-long event features competitions in men’s and women’s singles and doubles, as well as boys’ and girls’ U-18, U-14, and U-12 categories. Top male players include Aqeel Khan, Muzammil Murtaza, Yousaf Khalil, Barkat Ullah, Shahzad Khan, Hamza Roman, and Sami Zeb Khan. Leading women’s competitors include national stars Ushna Suhail, Sheeza Sajid, Esha Jawad, and Noor Malik.

PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Secretary Col (R) Zia-ud-Din Tufail highlighted that the tournament aims to promote sportsmanship and nurture emerging tennis talent, encouraging players to compete with passion and discipline.

Early Results:

  • In men’s singles, Aqeel Khan defeated Sami Zeb Khan 6-3, 6-3, and Muzammil Murtaza overcame Shahzad Khan 6-1, 6-3. Yousaf Khalil won 6-1, 6-0 over Muhammad Yahya, while Hamza Roman defeated Abdullah Adnan 6-0, 6-3.

  • In women’s singles, Sheeza Sajid beat Labika Durab 6-3, 6-0, and Romaisa Malik overcame Maria Rasheed 6-1, 6-0. Shimza Naz Durab, Shandana Rabi, and Soha Ali also advanced in straight sets.

  • Boys’ U-18 winners included Abdul Basit, Haziq Asim, Razik Sultan, and Hassan Usmani. In girls’ U-14, Zainah Abdullah and Shahreen Umer secured strong victories.

  • Boys’ U-14 and U-12 matches saw wins by Behroze Mahmood, Ahmed Afzal, Mahad Mehmood, M Muaz, M Turab Bhatti, Behroze Mehmood, and Salar Khan.

The tournament promises a week of exciting tennis action while celebrating Pakistan’s independence and encouraging young talent to shine on the national stage.
