Pakistan Launches New Iran Transit Corridor for Beef Exports to Central Asia

  Apr 10, 2026

Pakistan has taken a significant step in expanding its regional trade network with the launch of a new transit route for refrigerated export shipments from Karachi to Central Asia via Iran.

According to officials, the first refrigerated (reefer) export consignment under the TIR system was dispatched from Karachi and is expected to travel through the Gabd Border Post near Gwadar, entering Iran via Rimdan before continuing onward to Uzbekistan.

The new route is aimed at improving connectivity between Pakistan and Central Asian markets through efficient transit corridors.

Inaugural Shipment Under TIR System

The shipment was facilitated under the TIR transit framework, with relevant customs and logistics authorities overseeing the process. The launch of refrigerated transport units marks an important development for temperature-sensitive exports such as meat products.

Strengthening Regional Trade Connectivity

Officials stated that the new corridor has the potential to enhance Pakistan’s transit trade capabilities and improve access to emerging export markets in Central Asia. The Gabd–Rimdan route is expected to support smoother and faster cargo movement through regional borders.

Focus on Logistics and Trade Expansion

The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by customs authorities and logistics operators to improve trade facilitation and increase cargo movement through Karachi and Gwadar ports. It is also expected to strengthen Pakistan’s role as a regional logistics hub connecting South Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia.
