Pakistan Defeat India in Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship Opener

KARACHI: Pakistan made a strong start at the Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship 2025, securing a 2-0 victory over traditional rivals India on Thursday.

The match, played at the Khedhufushi City Beach Handball Court, saw Pakistan dominate from the beginning. The team comfortably claimed the first set 26-9, before sealing the win with an even more commanding 34-12 performance in the second set.

Star player Ahmed Hassan Baig was the standout performer and was named Man of the Match for his exceptional display.

The championship, which runs from September 18 to 24, features six teams competing on a league basis. The top four sides will advance to the semifinals. Pakistan is scheduled to play against Maldives and Sri Lanka on Friday.

In a positive moment of sportsmanship, players from both sides shook hands after the final whistle—highlighting the spirit of the game and offering a refreshing contrast to the heightened tensions often seen in other sports between the two nations.

This victory not only boosts Pakistan’s confidence early in the tournament but also sets the tone for their upcoming matches.
