Pakistan Railways May Shut Down Two Major Trains Due to Coach Shortage
Pakistan Railways is considering suspending two passenger trains because of a severe shortage of coaches. According to sources, the Shah Hussain Express, which operates with around 34 coaches to Karachi, and the Khushhal Khan Khattak Express, which usually runs with about 50 coaches, could be discontinued.
Officials revealed that the shortage of nearly 100 coaches, combined with low passenger turnout, is making it difficult to continue regular operations. Discussions are underway at the railway headquarters, but no final decision has been announced yet. If these services are halted, passengers may face limited travel options and increased pressure on other train routes.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways has also directed all passenger and freight services to strictly follow new safety rules focusing on brake inspections. Under the latest circular, no train will be cleared for operation unless its braking system is fully functional and certified by engineering teams.
Any coach or engine failing to meet the safety standards will be immediately removed from service. Officials say this move is aimed at enhancing passenger safety, ensuring punctuality, and preventing accidents.
