Pakistan Railways to Introduce Dining Cars and Free Onboard Services on Selected Trains
In a major step toward enhancing passenger comfort, Pakistan Railways has announced plans to upgrade select train services with dining coaches, onboard kitchens, and complimentary onboard facilities, according to recent reports.
Upgrades Coming to Popular Trains
As part of this modernization initiative:
-
Pakistan Express, Karachi Express, and Millat Express will soon feature dedicated dining cars for passengers.
-
Jaffar Express is set to include an in-train kitchen to improve food service quality during travel.
Meanwhile, passengers traveling between Lahore and Rawalpindi on railcars such as Subak Raftar, Subak Kharam, Islamabad Express, and Rawal Express will enjoy free onboard services, offering a more enjoyable and convenient journey.
Outsourced Catering Services in the Works
To ensure smooth service delivery, the Railway Headquarters has issued a tender for outsourcing catering services. Catering firms are invited to submit their technical and financial proposals by August 5, 2025.
Part of a Broader Modernization Plan
These new facilities are part of Pakistan Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance long-distance and intercity travel by focusing on comfort, quality, and passenger convenience.
Travelers can expect more improvements in the near future as the department continues to invest in upgraded amenities and better service standards.
