KARACHI: Pakistan is set to make history later this month as it hosts its first-ever international padel tournament, marking a new milestone in the country’s growing sports scene.

The Asia Pacific Padel Tour (APPT) Grand Slam will take place at the Legends Arena in Karachi from October 30 to November 2, featuring Asia’s top padel players. The event comes just two years after Pakistan opened its first padel courts at Legends Arena, and the sport has since seen a rapid rise with more than 350 courts now operating nationwide across Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, and Faisalabad.

Jahangir Khan backs padel growth

The tournament has the support of Pakistan’s squash legend Jahangir Khan, who now serves as chairman of Legends Arena. He believes the event will inspire the next generation of local athletes.

“Having the APPT tournament here will be a big boost for our young players,” said Khan. “It gives them the chance to test themselves against Asia’s best and to showcase the progress Pakistan has made in padel over the last two years.”

Global spotlight on Pakistan

APPT CEO Carlos Carrillo said he was delighted to bring the event to Pakistan for the first time.
“It is a pleasure to collaborate with Legends Arena, one of the finest venues in Asia. We are confident this event will be one of the highlights of our season,” he said.

Talal Shah Khan, CEO of Total Sports & Legends Arena, echoed the excitement, calling it a proud moment for Pakistan. “Hosting the Asia Pacific Padel Tour Grand Slam in Karachi is more than just a tournament — it’s a statement that Pakistan has officially arrived on the global padel map,” he said.

Tournament details

The event will feature both professional and amateur competitions across men’s, women’s, and mixed categories, with a total prize pool of USD 13,000. Amateur players wishing to participate have until October 20, 2025 to register through the official tournament website.

With Pakistan already having made its debut at the Asia Pacific Padel Cup in Kuala Lumpur and the Singapore Masters, hosting this landmark event at home is expected to further strengthen its place in the international padel community.

Cricket West Indies Calls Emergency Meeting to Revive Test Cricket Legacy Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced an emergency strategic intervention following a challenging Test series against Australia, aimed at revitalizing the team’s long-format performance. In response to the recent series defeat, CWI President Kishore Shallow has convened a special meeting of the Cricket Strategy and Officiating Committee. To provide expert insight and guidance, he has invited three of the region’s most celebrated cricket legends—Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara—to join the discussions. These icons will collaborate with existing committee members Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Desmond Haynes, and Ian Bradshaw. “To strengthen the discussions, I have extended invitations to three of our greatest batsmen ever: Sir Clive Lloyd, Sir Vivian Richards, and Brian Lara,” Shallow said in a recent statement. Together, the trio brings decades of experience and nearly 28,000 Test runs. Their involvement is intended to offer both inspiration and practical solutions to help guide the next chapter of West Indies cricket. “This engagement is not ceremonial. These are men who helped define our golden eras,” Shallow explained. “Their perspectives will be invaluable as we shape the next phase of our cricket development. We intend for this gathering to result in tangible, actionable recommendations.” While the recent series outcome has prompted reflection within the cricketing community, CWI emphasized the importance of maintaining a forward-looking approach. The board remains committed to long-term planning and rebuilding a strong, competitive Test team. West Indies cricket has seen significant success in the T20 format, but the rise of shorter formats has presented challenges for the traditional Test arena. CWI hopes that renewed focus and expert input will help bridge this gap and encourage greater interest and preparation for red-ball cricket. The strategic meeting is expected to produce a roadmap focused on resilience, performance development, and fostering a renewed culture of excellence. With leadership from some of the game’s greatest Caribbean players, West Indies cricket aims to build a future rooted in its proud and storied legacy
