Pakistan to Feature in FIH Pro League 2025–26
August 28, 2025
Pakistan men’s hockey team has officially confirmed its participation in the upcoming FIH Hockey Pro League 2025–26 season, the International Hockey Federation (FIH) announced on Thursday.
The Green Shirts were invited to join the prestigious tournament — often referred to as the “League of the Best” — after New Zealand withdrew despite winning the FIH Nations Cup earlier this year in Malaysia.
Government Support Secures Entry
Initially, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) was asked to confirm its participation by August 12 but requested an extension while awaiting financial backing. On Wednesday, the government allocated Rs250 million for the event, enabling PHF to officially confirm Pakistan’s entry the following day.
Strong Line-Up of Teams
With this development, Pakistan will compete against some of the world’s top teams, including India, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, England, Germany, Netherlands, and Spain, in the seventh edition of the league. The team replaces Ireland, who were relegated after finishing last in the previous season.
This means Pakistan will also renew its on-field rivalry with India, adding further excitement for fans worldwide.
FIH Welcomes Pakistan Back
FIH President Tayyab Ikram welcomed Pakistan’s inclusion, describing it as an important moment for global hockey.
“It’s great to see Pakistan back in elite competition. Their participation adds to the visibility and reach of the Pro League,” he said. “Pakistan’s qualification through the Nations Cup is a strong example of how opportunities at every level can create a natural pathway to the top.”
A Historic Return
Pakistan was originally part of the Pro League’s inaugural season in 2019 but had to withdraw early due to unavoidable circumstances. Their return in 2025–26 now provides them with a renewed chance to showcase their rich hockey legacy on the international stage.
