Pakistani satellite reaches orbit after launch from China

Pakistan Successfully Launches PRSS-1 Satellite with China’s Support

ISLAMABAD: In a significant leap for Pakistan’s space program, the country has successfully launched its latest satellite, the Pakistan Remote Sensing Satellite-1 (PRSS-1), from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China.

Launched aboard a Kuaizhou-1A carrier rocket at 10 AM (GMT+8), the satellite has entered its designated orbit, according to an official announcement by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal.


🛰️ Major Milestone in Space and Earth Observation

The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) hailed the launch as a critical milestone for Pakistan’s space ambitions. The PRSS-1 satellite is designed to significantly enhance the country’s Earth observation and remote sensing capabilities.

According to Suparco, this powerful satellite will aid in:

  • Urban planning

  • Disaster management

  • Food security

  • Climate change monitoring

  • Deforestation tracking

  • Water resource management

  • Agricultural mapping

  • Infrastructure growth and regional planning


🤝 A Symbol of Pakistan-China Cooperation

The launch was a product of successful collaboration between Suparco, China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, and MICROSAT China. Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, who witnessed the launch ceremony, called it not just a technological breakthrough, but also a symbol of deepening friendship with China.

The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan also congratulated the country on this achievement.


🌍 Supporting National Development and CPEC

Suparco Chairman Muhammad Yousaf Khan highlighted that the satellite will align with Pakistan’s development goals by supporting:

  • Precision agriculture to enhance crop yields

  • Geohazard risk identification for CPEC infrastructure

  • Early warnings for natural disasters like floods and landslides

  • Environmental protection and sustainability efforts


🇵🇰 National Leaders Applaud Scientific Achievement

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took to social media to congratulate Suparco and thanked Chinese partners for their technical support.

“This achievement lifts our national spirit,” the Prime Minister said.

President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed pride in Pakistani scientists, stating:

“Pakistan is proud of the capabilities of its scientists.”


The successful deployment of PRSS-1 marks a new era for Pakistan’s space technology. It strengthens national resilience, aids in sustainable development, and reinforces strategic ties with China — paving the way for more scientific advancements in the years ahead.
