Pakistan’s Preparations for Syria Clash Hit by Key Midfielder Adil Nabi’s Injury
Nov 15, 2025
Pakistan’s buildup to their AFC Asian Cup qualifier against Syria has suffered a serious setback after midfielder Adil Nabi picked up a hamstring injury during training. The timing of the injury is extremely unfortunate, with team officials indicating that he is unlikely to be fit for the crucial 18 November match in Islamabad.
Adil Nabi, widely regarded as one of Pakistan’s most promising and technically skilled diaspora players, had been expected to finally make his international debut after missing out on earlier opportunities. Medical staff assessed him immediately, but early evaluations suggest that he will not recover in time for the upcoming fixture at Jinnah Stadium.
The injury poses a major challenge for head coach Nolberto Solano, who has been relying on diaspora talent to strengthen the squad. Adil Nabi’s creativity, passing range, and composure on the ball were seen as key assets in breaking down Syria’s well-organized defense. His absence means Pakistan will have to readjust their midfield strategy and look for new ways to maintain control in the center of the pitch.
In a positive development, Adil’s brother Rahis Nabi is expected to return to the national team setup and earn another cap after being out of action for over a year, offering some relief for the coaching staff.
While Pakistan are already out of Asian Cup qualification, the match against Syria remains important for building confidence and testing the team’s tactical approach. With Syria arriving as favorites, Pakistan must now prepare for the challenge without one of their most experienced and influential midfielders.
For now, the focus stays on Adil Nabi’s recovery, but with the match fast approaching, Pakistan may have to step onto the field without their midfield orchestrator.
