Haider Ali Suspended by PCB Amid Ongoing UK Police Investigation

Pakistani cricketer Haider Ali has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after becoming the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in the United Kingdom.

Details of the Case Remain Confidential

While the nature of the alleged incident has not been disclosed, PCB officials have confirmed that the 24-year-old batter was interviewed under caution during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent tour of England. Haider is not in police custody and has since returned to Pakistan.

The PCB stated that it was notified of the situation by UK authorities and has taken immediate steps to suspend the player from all cricketing activities while the legal process unfolds.

“The PCB fully respects the legal procedures of the United Kingdom and will allow the investigation to run its course,” the board said. “Haider Ali has been placed under provisional suspension, effective immediately, pending the outcome of the inquiry. The board is also providing legal assistance to ensure his rights are protected throughout the process.”

A Setback in a Promising Career

The incident reportedly took place during the Shaheens’ UK tour, which concluded earlier this week. Haider Ali was among the senior players on the squad, featuring in all three one-day matches against the First-Class Counties XI, as well as two three-day fixtures.

This development marks another difficult chapter in Haider Ali’s career. Once hailed as a rising star, Haider emerged from Pakistan’s 2020 U19 World Cup team and quickly earned international caps, playing 2 ODIs and 35 T20Is for Pakistan. However, his progress has since stalled, with recent appearances mostly restricted to domestic and ‘A’ team cricket.

Next Steps Depend on Legal Outcome

The PCB has clarified that any further disciplinary measures will be decided after the UK legal process concludes and all facts are verified. The case could significantly impact Haider Ali’s future in professional cricket, depending on the investigation’s findings.
