PM Shehbaz pays tribute to martyred lieutenant, says military ‘cleaning’ Fitna-ul-Khawarij from Pakistan

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday honored the sacrifice of Lieutenant Uzair Mehmood Malik, who was martyred in a clash with terrorists in Tirah Valley’s Bagh area, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Khyber district.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exchange of fire took place on August 9. During the operation, Lieutenant Uzair Mehmood Malik led his troops with bravery, neutralizing four terrorists. However, he sustained critical injuries during the confrontation and succumbed to his wounds at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Peshawar on Sunday.

The ISPR emphasized that Pakistan’s security forces remain resolute in their mission to eradicate terrorism from the country. The sacrifices made by brave officers and soldiers like Lieutenant Uzair Mehmood Malik only strengthen their determination.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed his condolences to the family of the fallen officer and lauded the military’s ongoing efforts to rid Pakistan of terrorist elements. He reaffirmed that the entire nation stands united with the army in its fight against terrorism and that the martyrs and their families are a source of pride for the country.

President Asif Ali Zardari also paid tribute to Lieutenant Uzair Mehmood Malik for his ultimate sacrifice in defense of the nation and extended his sympathies to the bereaved family. He reiterated the commitment to continue operations against terrorist groups to ensure the safety and security of Pakistan.

The ISPR further clarified that the government has officially designated Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) as “Fitna al-Khawarij,” emphasizing that this group and its members are outcasts with no connection to Islam or the nation.

In 2023, Pakistan has seen a significant increase in violence, with over 1,500 fatalities and 1,463 injuries reported from various terror attacks and counter-terror operations. The provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been the primary hotspots for these incidents, accounting for the majority of fatalities and attacks.

Security forces continue to make strides in combating terrorism, with recent operations neutralizing multiple terrorists involved in attacks on security personnel. The ongoing efforts highlight the military’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the nation.
