PMD Forecasts Heavy Rainfall in Sindh and Balochistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings for torrential rains in Sindh and parts of Balochistan over the coming days. Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are continuing to affect southern regions of the country.

Sindh Weather Update

From August 19 to 22, widespread rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds is expected in cities including:
Mithi, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Sanghar, and Jamshoro.
Scattered rainfall is also expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Khairpur, and Jacobabad, with occasional gaps in between showers.

Balochistan Weather Update

Heavy rain accompanied by wind and thunderstorms is likely in Barkhan, Musakhel, Loralai, Sibbi, Zhob, Qilla Saifullah, Khuzdar, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech, Gwadar, and Panjgur during the same period.

Other Regions

Isolated rain and thunderstorms may occur in Islamabad, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Punjab, including Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree/Galliyat, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Lahore, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur.
Parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Malakand, Bajaur, Mohmand, Peshawar, Charsadda, Nowshera, Mardan, and Swabi may also see occasional rain from August 19 to 22.

Possible Impacts and Safety Advisories

  • Urban flooding may occur in low-lying areas of Sindh, including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Tharparkar, and surrounding cities.

  • Flash floods could affect northern and southeastern Balochistan.

  • Heavy downpours, windstorms, and lightning may damage weak structures such as Kacha houses, electric poles, billboards, vehicles, and solar panels.
