Porzingis Eyes Serbia as Toughest EuroBasket 2025 Opponent
August 19, 2025 – Latvia star Kristaps Porzingis has identified Serbia as the toughest group-stage opponent for EuroBasket 2025, while expressing excitement about potential matchups with neighboring countries.
Speaking to FIBA, Porzingis called Serbia “probably top three in the tournament on paper,” adding that facing them will be a real challenge for Latvia. He also warned that teams like Turkey, the Czech Republic, and Estonia can pull off surprises if Latvia isn’t fully focused.
“Everybody can surprise you if you’re not correct on that day. So we just have to be locked in,” Porzingis said.
Porzingis also highlighted the thrill of facing regional rivals, noting the historic significance and passionate fan support:
“It would be really cool to play them. That’s always a big rivalry, and they have great fans. We’re trying to creep up on them, and it will be really exciting.”
Comparing EuroBasket to the NBA, the Latvian center described the tournament’s intensity:
“Every game is life or death. Every possession matters, and that’s why it’s so fun for us as players and for the fans. The intensity is insane… just like the NBA Finals or NBA playoffs.”
With the tournament hosted in Riga, Porzingis called the experience “once in a lifetime,” urging his team to give their all:
“There’s no looking back. We have to give a hundred percent and enjoy every single second on the floor.”
