Punjab Launches Electro Bus Service in Another District

Maryam Nawaz Inaugurates Sahiwal’s First Electric Bus Service

Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, inaugurated Sahiwal’s first-ever electric bus service on Monday, introducing a modern, eco-friendly, and affordable transport option for the city.

During the launch ceremony, the chief minister took a test ride along with Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan and senior officials. The event attracted a large crowd, highlighting strong public interest in the initiative.

In the first phase, 16 electric buses will run on four major routes:

  • Arifwala Bypass to Sarwar Chowk

  • Noor Shah to KFC Bypass

  • Farid Town to Yousafwala

  • General Bus Stand to Kamir

Authorities estimate that more than 25,000 passengers will benefit from the service daily. The fare has been set at Rs. 20 per stop, making it a budget-friendly travel option.

Each bus is equipped with Wi-Fi, mobile charging ports, CCTV cameras, and a separate compartment for women, ensuring comfort, safety, and convenience for passengers. A dedicated charging station for the buses has also been established in the city.

According to provincial officials, this project is part of Punjab’s broader plan to modernize urban transport by offering safe, affordable, and environmentally friendly alternatives to citizens.
