Punjab Launches Pakistan’s First AI-Based Driving Test Car

Punjab Launches Pakistan’s First AI-Powered Driving Test Car

Lahore: In a major step toward modernizing the licensing system, Punjab has introduced Pakistan’s first Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered driving test car. The innovation was developed on the special instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif and is aimed at making driving tests more transparent, automated, and free from human bias.

Advanced Technology for Fair Testing

The smart vehicle, designed by the Punjab Traffic Police, comes equipped with modern cameras and sensors that automatically evaluate a candidate’s performance during the test.

According to DIG Traffic Waqas Nazir, the system ensures fair assessments without manual interference.

  • Inside the car: Facial recognition and biometric fingerprint scanners verify the candidate’s identity.

  • Outside the car: Four cameras monitor driving behavior in real time.

Once a candidate takes the seat, the system activates automatically, providing test instructions, a countdown timer, and checks for essential safety features such as the handbrake and seatbelt.

Automatic Results and Fail-Safe Mechanism

The AI system is capable of instantly declaring results without human involvement. For example, if a candidate engages the reverse gear more than once, the system will automatically mark the test as failed.

Test outcomes are updated digitally, eliminating delays and ensuring complete transparency.

Rollout Across Punjab

The AI-powered driving test car will first be launched in Lahore. Authorities have confirmed that 200 such vehicles will be manufactured in the current fiscal year and distributed to licensing centers across Punjab.

With this groundbreaking move, Punjab is positioning itself at the forefront of smart governance and tech-driven public services in Pakistan.
