Punjab Releases Rs. 42 Billion for Affordable Housing

Punjab Allocates Rs. 42 Billion for ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ Housing Scheme

In a major move to address housing challenges and uplift underserved communities, the Punjab government has allocated Rs. 42.013 billion for its flagship housing initiative, ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ — the largest-ever provincial investment in interest-free housing assistance.

📌 Interest-Free Loans for Low-Income Families

Launched in August 2024, the scheme offers interest-free loans of up to Rs. 1.5 million to individuals who own land and wish to build their homes. Managed by the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA), the initiative has already helped over 51,900 families, with:

  • 6,160 homes completed

  • 45,163 homes under construction

The funding, issued through the Annual Development Programme 2025–26, aims to expand the program’s reach under the urban development sector.

✅ Inclusive & Digitized Application Process

According to Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal, the entire application process is being streamlined and digitized for transparency and faster approvals. The scheme has no geographic limitations — eligible applicants from any part of Punjab can apply.

Target beneficiaries include:

  • Daily wage workers

  • Widows

  • Gardeners

  • Vendors

  • Small shopkeepers

  • Other low-income citizens

💬 CM Maryam Nawaz: “A Home is a Symbol of Dignity”

During a recent progress review meeting, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz urged officials to accelerate loan disbursements and ensure timely support to qualified applicants.

“Each house built under this scheme represents not just shelter, but dignity, stability, and a better future,” said CM Maryam.

“When a poor family finally gets a home, it’s a victory for the people and proof that politics now means service — not slogans.”

📊 Program Impact So Far

  • Total disbursed so far: Over Rs. 60.5 billion

  • New allocation: Rs. 42 billion

  • Expected beneficiaries (2025–26): Tens of thousands of families

This substantial funding is expected to expand homeownership and financial security for vulnerable populations across Punjab.

The ‘Apni Chat Apna Ghar’ initiative continues to gain momentum, quickly becoming a symbol of hope and inclusive development in Punjab. With strong political will and community-focused planning, the program is helping thousands turn their dream of owning a home into reality.
