Punjab to Assess School Meal Program in Eight Districts

Punjab Launches School Meal Program Assessment in Eight Districts

The Punjab Education Department has announced the rollout of a School Meal Program Assessment (SMPA) in eight districts, aiming to fight malnutrition and improve the overall health of primary school children.

According to official sources, the assessment will be completed by September 19 in the districts of Bahawalnagar, Bhakkar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Mianwali, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan. As part of the process, a baseline survey of primary school students will be conducted.

The survey will include an educational and health profile, along with a detailed questionnaire. Schools have been directed to ensure accurate height and weight measurements of students to maintain reliable data.

In addition, the Education Department has instructed schools to provide children with milk and fortified biscuits during the initiative.

Officials believe the program will not only improve students’ health and nutrition but also encourage better school attendance, reduce dropouts, and support mental and physical development of children.
