The initiative was announced by the Works and Communications Department during a meeting chaired by Provincial Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmad Bharath, where officials shared details of the upcoming electronic toll collection system.
Under the new system, vehicles will be verified automatically through digital sensors and cameras, eliminating manual processes that often cause delays and errors. The move is expected to ensure accurate toll collection and reduce revenue leakages at key highways across the province.
According to the minister, the first phase of the project will cover toll plazas in Attock, Bahawalpur, Khushab, Gujrat, Chakwal, Sargodha, Murree, Okara, Layyah, Lodhran, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Mianwali, Narowal, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Vehari, and Gujranwala.
The department confirmed that the digital toll system will be rolled out in phases, with completion expected to significantly enhance traffic flow, monitoring, and revenue transparency across Punjab’s major routes.
