April 9, 2026
A resolution has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly recommending Shehbaz Sharif, Asim Munir, and Ishaq Dar for the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of their diplomatic efforts during the recent Middle East crisis.
Resolution Highlights Diplomatic Role
The motion, presented by a PML-N lawmaker, commends the leadership for facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran, which contributed to a temporary ceasefire agreement.
According to the resolution, these efforts played a significant role in easing tensions and promoting stability in a region facing escalating conflict.
Ceasefire Agreement and Mediation
Pakistan gained international attention after helping mediate discussions between the United States and Iran. The diplomatic engagement reportedly led to a two-week ceasefire announced by Donald Trump.
During the process, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif urged additional time for negotiations, allowing diplomatic channels to remain open. The proposal was accepted, paving the way for further dialogue.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also remained actively involved, coordinating with key stakeholders and supporting efforts to bring both sides to the negotiating table.
Pakistan to Host Talks
Following the ceasefire announcement, Pakistan is expected to host upcoming discussions between US and Iranian representatives. Officials view this as an opportunity to further reduce tensions and work toward a more lasting resolution.

Concerns Over Regional Stability
The resolution also notes that rising tensions involving Israel, the United States, and Iran pose a serious risk to global peace.
Lawmakers warned that the situation could escalate into a broader international crisis if diplomatic efforts are not sustained.
Call for Recognition
In light of these developments, the resolution calls for the nomination of Pakistan’s leadership for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing their role in encouraging dialogue and supporting peace initiatives during a critical period.
