Saudi Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh Passes Away
RIYADH – September 23, 2025: Saudi Arabia’s Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh has passed away, the Saudi Press Agency confirmed on Tuesday.
The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extended their condolences to the late scholar’s family, the Saudi people, and the wider Islamic world.
Funeral Arrangements
According to Saudi media, the funeral prayer will be held after Asr prayer at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh. King Salman also directed that funeral prayers in absentia be performed at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, and in all mosques across the Kingdom.
Legacy of Service
Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh was appointed Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia in 1999 by King Fahd, succeeding Sheikh Abdul Aziz Ibn Baz. He also served as President of the Council of Senior Scholars and delivered sermons during Hajj, making significant contributions to Islamic scholarship and guidance.
In a statement, the Royal Court said:
“With the passing of Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, Saudi Arabia and the Islamic world have lost a distinguished scholar who devoted his life to serving Islam and Muslims.”
