Shadab Khan dedicates Islamabad United victory to Rumman Raees Amid personal loss

MULTAN – In a moving tribute, Islamabad United captain Shadab Khan dedicated his team’s latest Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 victory to fast bowling consultant Rumman Raees, who is currently away from the squad mourning the loss of his sister.

Raees left the team camp on April 21 due to the family bereavement. Despite his absence, Islamabad United put in a strong performance against the Multan Sultans at their home ground, securing their first-ever win in Multan and extending their winning streak to five consecutive matches.

Chasing a target of 169, Islamabad United comfortably reached the score with three wickets down and 17 balls to spare. Batter Jordan Cox starred with a standout performance, remaining unbeaten on 80 off 45 deliveries, which included six boundaries and five sixes.

Speaking after the match, Shadab Khan praised his team for executing their plans effectively and playing with confidence.

“Thanks to the Almighty. On paper, we looked strong, but execution is what truly matters—and I’m really proud of how the team delivered,” said Shadab during the post-match presentation.

The captain noted that opting to bowl first was a strategic decision that paid off, particularly highlighting the bowling unit’s discipline in the final overs.

“The pitch was slightly dry, and we had planned to bowl first. Our bowlers were excellent, especially in the last six overs. They stuck to the strategy and executed it perfectly,” he added.

Shadab also emphasized the importance of having versatile players in the squad, pointing to the role of all-rounders in T20 cricket.

“All-rounders are key in this format. They provide depth in batting and flexibility in bowling. Our game plan was to take it deep, and that strategy worked in our favor.”

In a heartfelt conclusion to his post-match comments, Shadab expressed solidarity with Rumman Raees and his family.

“This win is for Rumman bhai and his family. He’s going through a very difficult time after the loss of his sister. Our thoughts and prayers are with him,” Shadab said.

Islamabad United’s strong showing keeps them well-placed in the PSL 10 standings, and the team continues to perform cohesively under Shadab Khan’s leadership.
