Starlink and Veon Partner to Expand Direct-to-Cell Satellite Connectivity

Β November 7, 2025

Starlink, the satellite internet subsidiary of SpaceX, has signed its largest direct-to-cell connectivity deal to date with Veon, the parent company of Jazz, according to a report by Reuters.

Expanding Global Connectivity

The agreement will enable Veon to integrate Starlink’s satellite-based mobile services into its telecom networks, starting with Beeline in Kazakhstan and Kyivstar in Ukraine.
Since Veon also operates in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Uzbekistan, the partnership could potentially expand to these markets in the future.

Nonexclusive Partnership

The collaboration is nonexclusive, meaning Veon can also engage with other satellite service providers. The company is reportedly in discussions with Amazon’s Project Kuiper, AST SpaceMobile, and Eutelsat OneWeb to explore additional opportunities in the satellite communication sector.

Starlink’s Growing Footprint

Starlink currently provides internet services to over seven million users globally and partners with telecom operators in 11 countries.
SpaceX operates a constellation of more than 8,000 satellites, including 650 designed specifically for direct-to-cell communication, aimed at expanding mobile coverage in remote and underserved areas.

A Step Toward Broader Access

The new deal represents a significant milestone in extending satellite-to-mobile connectivity, allowing telecom operators to deliver improved communication services even in regions without traditional network infrastructure.

Key Takeaway

The partnership between Starlink and Veon highlights the growing global shift toward satellite-based mobile networks, setting the stage for broader digital inclusion across Asia and beyond.
