Gallup Pakistan Survey: Punjab’s Maryam Nawaz Rated Higher Than KP’s Chief Minister by Half of KP Residents
A recent Gallup Pakistan survey reveals that 50% of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) residents believe Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is performing better than their own Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur.
The survey also found that only 38% of respondents think CM Ali Amin Gandapur is doing better than his predecessors, while nearly 47% favor former Prime Minister Imran Khan as KP’s next Chief Minister.
Growing Concerns Over Governance and Services in KP
Conducted through 3,000 face-to-face interviews between February and March 2025, the survey highlights increasing dissatisfaction with governance, economic challenges, and public service delivery in KP.
Key issues raised by respondents include:

Young residents also reported a shortage of public amenities, with:

77% stating there are no parks

81% reporting no libraries

70% lacking community centers
Infrastructure and Accountability Concerns
Only 43% noticed any road development since the last election, and just 37% saw improvements in transport services. Among supporters of PTI, 49% felt no significant development had taken place, and over half suspected corruption in project spending.
Regarding accountability, 71% of residents, including 62% of PTI voters, support investigations into major development projects.
Employment and Security Outlook
The survey also found that:

59% blame the government for rising unemployment

73% believe jobs are often awarded based on personal connections
While 58% are satisfied with overall security, 57% still express concerns about terrorism. Trust in formal courts remains low, but an overwhelming 84% support the traditional Jirga system for dispute resolution.
The popular Sehat Card health insurance scheme received 83% approval among respondents.
Public Support for Federal Cooperation and Social Policies
A large majority of KP residents favor stronger collaboration with the federal government. Many also support stricter regulations on social media and the repatriation of Afghan refugees to address local concerns.
This survey reflects the complex challenges facing KP, emphasizing public demand for improved services, greater transparency, and effective governance.
