There is extra confidence in our team – Najmul Hossain

Bangladesh Ready for Tough Challenge Against India, Says Captain Najmul Hossain

Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain acknowledged on Sunday (September 15) that their upcoming tour of India will present a significant challenge. However, he expressed confidence following their recent historic series win against Pakistan, believing it has boosted their chances against the formidable Indian side.

Earlier this month, Bangladesh clinched a 2-0 series victory over Pakistan in Rawalpindi. As the Test squad departed for India on Sunday, the T20I squad is set to join later.

Najmul stated, “This series will be challenging, but after our successful series against Pakistan, we have gained extra confidence, both as a team and among our supporters. Every series presents an opportunity, and we will aim to win both matches. We need to focus on our processes and perform our roles effectively.”

He added, “If we execute our plans well, a good result is possible, but it will be a tough series. Despite their higher ranking, our recent performance gives us hope. We need to play good cricket, as results are often decided in the final sessions of the matches. We should focus on our strengths and not think too far ahead.”

Najmul highlighted the difference in experience between Bangladesh’s pacers and India’s but praised the capabilities of their spinners. “Our spin department is strong and can perform well on any surface. While our pacers may lack experience compared to India’s, our spinners are competitive. Success will depend on cohesive team play.”

On a personal note, Najmul’s recent batting form has been under scrutiny. He scored only 32 runs in the two-match Test series against Sri Lanka earlier this year and 58 runs in three innings against Pakistan. Bangladesh batting coach David Hemp recently mentioned that Najmul is close to regaining his form.

Najmul commented on his batting, “My primary goal is to contribute to the team’s success. I have prepared well and will give my best. The rest is up to fate.”

The first Test of the series against India will begin on September 19 in Chennai, with the second match scheduled for September 27 in Kanpur. Following the Test series, Bangladesh will play three T20Is against India on October 6 (Gwalior), October 9 (Delhi), and October 12 (Hyderabad).
