British Cyclists Aim for Glory at Rwanda Road World Championships
KIGALI, Rwanda – September 16, 2025 –
Britain’s top cycling talents will be in action at the Road World Championships in Kigali this month, with high hopes following strong performances in major tours.
Tom Pidcock, fresh from a podium finish at the Vuelta a España, will lead the British squad, bringing his best grand tour result yet. Rising stars Oscar Onley and Cat Ferguson are also in the mix, with Onley impressing this summer with a fourth-place finish at the Tour de France, and Ferguson aiming to upgrade her results in the under-23 category.
The championships, running from September 21-28, are being called the toughest in history, thanks to Kigali’s high altitude and challenging climbs. The men’s road race alone features 5,400 meters of elevation gain, a course well-suited to riders like Pidcock and Onley.
Joining the elite men’s team are Fred Wright, James Knox, Mark Donovan, defending Tour of Rwanda champion Joe Blackmore, and debutants Bjorn Koerdt and Oliver Knight. With a mix of experience and fresh talent, Team Britain will be looking to secure medals across multiple categories.
