Travel Mishap Sidelines Pakistan U23 Goalkeeper Ahead of AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers
The Pakistan U23 national football team faces a setback ahead of the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers as goalkeeper Umair Arooj was unable to join the squad for their trip to Cambodia.
Arooj had been named in the 23-member squad announced by the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). However, due to an administrative error, he was rendered ineligible to travel. According to federation sources, Umair Bahadar was mistakenly listed twice in the clearance documents, leaving Arooj off the paperwork.
This mishap continues a history of logistical challenges for the PFF, highlighting ongoing administrative issues in Pakistani football.
With Arooj unavailable, Hassan Ali and Adam Najeeb remain the only goalkeepers available for Pakistan’s three crucial fixtures.
Led by head coach Nolberto Solano, Pakistan is in Group G, competing against Iraq, hosts Cambodia, and Oman. While the absence of key players is a setback, the squad aims to rise to the challenge and make a strong impression on the international stage.
Fans will be watching closely as the remaining players step up to carry the team’s hopes in these important qualifiers.
