Troy Merritt Stays Busy Across the Globe Despite Limited PGA Starts

NAPA, California: Troy Merritt only made it into the Procore Championship on Monday, marking just his sixth PGA Tour start this year, but he hasn’t been idle.

The 14-year tour veteran has been playing internationally, including the Omega European Masters in Switzerland and the Irish Open, before arriving in Napa. Shortly after the Procore Championship, he flew to Paris for the French Open, with upcoming tournaments in Scotland, India, and South Korea.

Merritt, along with Brandon Wu and Martin Trainer, leveraged a European Tour category allowing players who finished No. 126–200 in the previous FedEx Cup to take up to five spots. Sign-ups were open until December 19, giving these players a chance to maintain a full competitive schedule.

At the Procore Championship, Merritt closed with a 76 to tie for 53rd. “I’ve played 14 years over here. I’ve seen all these courses. I figured I might as well go play over there and see those,” he said.

This international strategy helps players like Merritt stay competitive while pursuing FedEx Cup points and maintaining a global presence on the professional golf circuit.
