FIVB Women’s World Championship 2025: How the Teams Moved in the World Rankings

 September 10, 2025

The 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship not only crowned Italy as champions but also brought major shifts in the FIVB Women’s World Rankings. From Türkiye’s rise to the top three to Slovenia’s historic breakthrough, the tournament reshaped the global volleyball landscape.

Türkiye’s Historic Rise

Silver medalists Türkiye delivered their best-ever World Championship performance.

  • They gained the most ranking points (30.49) of all teams.

  • Türkiye climbed three spots, moving from No. 6 to No. 3 with a score of 368.09 points.

  • Despite losing the final to Italy, they only dropped 0.01 points, showcasing consistency and dominance.

This puts them within touching distance of Brazil (No. 2) and still chasing Italy (No. 1).

Slovenia’s Dream Debut

World Championship rookies Slovenia achieved their first-ever tournament win.

  • They advanced beyond the pool stage with a 1-3 record.

  • Their efforts netted 10.57 ranking points, the highest leap in placement.

  • Slovenia jumped five spots, from No. 25 to No. 20.

A historic achievement for a debut team.

Thailand, France & Other Movers

  • Thailand (hosts): Rose from No. 21 to No. 18 after two wins, including a key victory over Sweden (+11.24 points).

  • France: Surged to No. 13, gaining 30.19 points — the second-biggest increase of the tournament.

  • Kenya, Greece & Spain: Each climbed two or more spots, with Spain breaking into the Top 30.

  • Germany, Mexico & Cuba: Each improved by one place, with Germany back in the Top 10.

Teams That Dropped in Rankings

Not all teams benefited:

  • Vietnam: The biggest drop, falling six spots from No. 22 to No. 28 after winning just one set.

  • Bulgaria: Dropped five places to No. 25.

  • Slovakia: Fell four spots to No. 33.

  • Colombia: Lost three positions, now at No. 19.

  • China, Czechia & Egypt: Each slipped two places.

  • Poland, Dominican Republic & Puerto Rico: All fell by one spot.

Biggest Winners & Losers in Points

  • Top Gainers:

    • Türkiye (+30.49)

    • France (+30.19)

    • Belgium (+16.03)

    • Thailand (+11.24)

    • Germany (+11.18)
