Umar Akmal Regrets Sacrificing Foreign League Career for Pakistan

Umar Akmal Expresses Frustration Over PCB’s NOC Policy, Considers Legal Action

Veteran cricketer Umar Akmal has once again voiced his frustration over ongoing challenges with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), specifically regarding the denial of No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) that would allow him to participate in international T20 leagues.

A Career Marked by Missed Opportunities

Once seen as one of Pakistan’s most promising talents, Umar Akmal’s career has been defined by a series of highs and lows. At 35, the experienced batter has played in several premier leagues—including the PSL, BPL, CPL, and the former Champions League T20—but continues to face barriers when it comes to representing himself in overseas competitions.

Speaking during a recent media interaction, Akmal opened up about his struggles:

International cricket has always been my top priority. I gave up major leagues to serve Pakistan. But today, I regret those decisions.

He claims the PCB has repeatedly delayed or denied his NOC applications without providing clear reasons.

Unexplained Delays and Financial Setbacks

Umar recalled a past incident where a delayed NOC cost him nearly an entire league season. Currently, he has applied for permission to play in an ICC-sanctioned league in Switzerland, but is still awaiting a response from the board.

If the league wasn’t legitimate, why would I even apply? I’ve followed the process. What more do they want?” he questioned, expressing his growing frustration.

The batter emphasized that these ongoing issues have not only affected him professionally but also mentally and financially.

Legal Action on the Horizon?

If his latest application is rejected, Umar Akmal has stated that he may pursue legal action against the PCB, citing unfair treatment compared to other players.

If this keeps going on, I’ll go to court. I’m not finished yet. I have years left in me and I deserve the same chances others are getting.

A Career of Unfulfilled Potential

Despite the setbacks, Umar Akmal’s T20 numbers speak volumes. With 5,839 runs in 279 matches, including 34 fifties and a century, he remains a seasoned player with significant experience. Many analysts and fans still regard him as one of Pakistan cricket’s biggest “what-ifs.”

As the PCB continues to focus on administrative reforms and modernization, the question remains whether experienced players like Umar Akmal will be given a fair opportunity to extend their careers—either at home or abroad.
