Canada Advances as Pool Runners-Up at Men’s Volleyball World Championship

Canada has secured a spot in the Men’s Volleyball World Championship Round of 16, finishing as Pool G runners-up after a tough 3-0 loss to Türkiye. The match took place in Quezon City, concluding the pool stage of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship.

Türkiye, ranked 16th in the world, delivered a dominant performance against the world’s number eight team, winning 25-21, 25-16, 27-25. The victory allowed Türkiye to top Pool G undefeated and climb three spots in the FIVB rankings to 13th, while Canada dropped to ninth.

Türkiye’s middle blocker Marko Matic praised his team’s discipline and preparation, highlighting their potential under a new coach. “We are a young team with big goals. Hard work and preparation brought this success, and now it’s showtime,” he said.

Canada showed resilience, excelling in serving (8 aces vs 3) and matching Türkiye at the net with seven kill blocks each. Sharone Vernon-Evans, Fynnian McCarthy, and captain Nicholas Hoag each scored eight points.

The Round of 16 matchups will see Canada and Türkiye face the Pool B winners and runners-up, yet to be decided in the clash between Poland and the Netherlands.

Meanwhile, Japan and Libya will compete for third place in Pool G, aiming to finish the tournament on a high note. The match kicks off at 21:40 local time (13:40 UTC).
