Virat Kohli Surpasses Sangakkara to Become Second-Highest Run-Scorer in ODI History
October 25, 2025
Virat Kohli has once again etched his name into cricket’s record books. The Indian batting superstar has now surpassed Kumar Sangakkara to become the second-highest run-scorer in ODI history, adding yet another remarkable milestone to his legendary career.
During India’s emphatic nine-wicket win over Australia in Sydney, Kohli remained unbeaten on 74 runs, a knock that not only guided his team to victory but also propelled him past Sangakkara’s tally of 14,234 runs. Kohli’s total now stands at 14,255 runs in 305 ODIs, achieved with an incredible average of 57.71 — the highest among the top ten run-getters.
Only Sachin Tendulkar, with a monumental 18,426 runs, now stands above Kohli on the all-time list. Kohli also holds the record for the most ODI centuries (51), showcasing his consistency and dominance over 17 years of international cricket.
Cricket experts believe that even as India begins shaping a new squad for the 2027 ODI World Cup, Kohli’s legacy in the 50-over format remains unmatched. His professionalism, fitness, and hunger for runs continue to inspire the next generation of cricketers.
