Arshad Nadeem has cemented his place in Pakistan’s sporting history after winning gold in the javelin throw at the Paris Olympics 2024. With a record-breaking throw of 92.97 meters.
Nadeem not only set a new Olympic record but also secured Pakistan’s first Olympic medal in 32 years, finishing ahead of India’s Neeraj Chopra. His historic achievement has sparked a wave of celebrations and rewards across Pakistan.
Nadeem is set to receive over PKR 153 million (approximately INR 4.5 crore or USD 538,000) in cash prizes from various leaders and celebrities in Pakistan. The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has announced a reward of PKR 100 million, while Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has pledged an additional PKR 2 million. The Chief Minister of Sindh will award Nadeem PKR 50 million, with Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab confirming this. Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has also announced a reward of PKR 1 million.

Prominent personalities have also joined in to honor Nadeem’s achievement. Popular Pakistani singer Ali Zafar and cricketer Ahmad Shahzad have each promised PKR 1 million as a token of appreciation. Additionally, a resolution passed in the National Assembly has recommended that Nadeem be honored with Pakistan’s highest civil award.

Further tributes include an honorary dinner arranged by Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Syedaal Khan Nasar, and the naming of a new sports stadium in Sukkur after Nadeem. Upon his return to Pakistan, Nadeem will be presented with a gold crown, as announced by Sindh Government spokesperson and Sukkur Mayor Barrister Islam Shaikh.

Moreover, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has revealed plans to establish the ‘Arshad Nadeem Athletics Academy’ in Karachi. To add to the list of honors, Beacon Energy, a leading solar energy company in Pakistan, will gift Nadeem a solar energy system. These accolades reflect the nation’s immense pride in Nadeem’s remarkable achievement at the Paris Olympics.
