World Boxing Championships 2025 Kick Off in Liverpool with Thrilling Opening Day

The World Boxing Championships 2025 officially began today at the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England, featuring 60 bouts of top-tier boxing across two action-packed sessions.

Strong Start for England

Host nation England made an impressive opening, securing three victories through Ellis Trowbridge (M55kg), Lauren Mackie (W54kg), and Paris Olympian Chantelle Reid (W70kg). The only setback came when Isaac Okoh (M90kg) narrowly lost a split decision to Kazakhstan’s Sagyndyk Togambay.

Trowbridge earned the home crowd’s first cheer of the tournament with a dominant 5:0 unanimous win over Albania’s Ardit Murja. He will now face Rui Yamaguchi of Japan in the next round.

Speaking after his victory, Trowbridge said:

“I showed my composure and skill, and I’m ready to build on this momentum. Fighting in front of a home crowd lifts my game to the next level—bring on the next round.”

He added that the atmosphere on day one was electric and promised to raise his performance further as the tournament progresses.

Tournament Highlights

This year’s event is historic, with 66 national federations competing and, for the first time, both men’s and women’s world championships held under the same tournament. All five Olympic-style boxing continents are represented, making it a truly global spectacle.

What’s Next

The action continues Friday with another 64 bouts scheduled across two sessions. Session three starts at 11:00 GMT, while session four begins at 18:00 GMT, with fights taking place simultaneously in two rings.
