Zach Neto’s Two Homers Power Angels to 7-4 Win Over Dodgers in Freeway Series
Zach Neto delivered a standout performance with two home runs, including his eighth leadoff homer of the season, leading the Los Angeles Angels to a 7-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. The Angels remain undefeated in the Freeway Series this season with a surprising 4-0 record.
Mike Trout contributed with a two-run single, and Yoán Moncada drove in two runs as the Angels rallied in the eighth inning to secure the win.
For the Dodgers, reigning World Series champions, the lead over the San Diego Padres in the NL West narrowed to just one game for the first time since mid-June. Shohei Ohtani continued his hot streak, hitting a solo home run in the eighth inning, marking his third consecutive game with a homer and extending his hitting streak to 10 games this August.
Max Muncy followed with a three-run homer to cut the Angels’ lead, but Angels’ bullpen held strong, with Connor Brogdon finishing the eighth and Kenley Jansen recording his 22nd save of the season.
Unfortunately, Angels’ right fielder Gustavo Campero was injured chasing Muncy’s homer and was taken off the field on a cart.
On the mound, José Soriano (8-9) dominated the Dodgers, allowing just two singles and two walks over six scoreless innings, giving up only two hits in a stellar outing. In contrast, Dodgers starter Yoshinobu Yamamoto (10-8) struggled, giving up six runs on six hits and five walks before leaving in the fifth inning.
Neto’s power display included a towering homer off Yamamoto’s first pitch, marking his 18th home run of the year and his third career multi-homer game.
