Nearly 20 Million Children Vaccinated in Latest Polio Campaign Across Pakistan

Islamabad: A recent polio vaccination campaign, held from September 1 to 7, successfully reached 19.7 million children under the age of five, according to data released by the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC).

Coverage Across Provinces

The week-long sub-national campaign was carried out in 81 high-risk districts nationwide. Provincial figures show:

  • Punjab: 4.04 million children vaccinated

  • Sindh: 8.72 million children vaccinated

  • Balochistan: 2.22 million children vaccinated

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP): 4.025 million children vaccinated

  • Islamabad: 0.478 million children vaccinated

  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 0.112 million children vaccinated

  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK): 0.164 million children vaccinated

Campaign Adjustments

The NEOC confirmed that the vaccination campaign in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Multan, Muzaffargarh, and Bahawalpur was postponed due to flooding, which disrupted access to certain areas. New dates will be announced soon to ensure that all children are covered without delay.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts Bajaur and Upper Dir will begin their vaccination campaign from September 15, targeting 1.68 million children.
