Curtis Campher Makes Cricket History with Unprecedented Five Wickets in Five Balls
DUBLIN: While the Multan Sultans may have had a PSL season to forget, their replacement player Curtis Campher has etched his name into cricketing history with a once-in-a-lifetime performance.
The Irish all-rounder became the first player in professional men’s cricket to take five wickets in five consecutive deliveries, a feat achieved during a match between Munster Reds and North West Warriors in the Inter-Provincial T20 Trophy.
A Match to Remember
Campher’s standout performance began with the bat. Walking in at 57-2, he stabilized Munster Reds’ innings alongside Peter Moor, contributing a rapid 44 runs off 24 balls. Their 68-run partnership pushed the Reds to a competitive total of 188/7.
However, it was with the ball that Campher delivered a record-breaking moment. With North West Warriors already struggling at 87-5 in the 12th over, he struck twice in two balls to dismiss Jared Wilson and Graham Hume.
Returning in his next over, Campher completed the historic feat by removing Andy McBrine, Robbie Millar, and Josh Wilson in three successive deliveries—five wickets in five balls, something never before seen in professional men’s cricket.
His extraordinary bowling display helped bundle out the Warriors for just 88 runs, securing a massive 100-run win for Munster Reds.
A Milestone for the Ages
Though similar accomplishments have been recorded in school or amateur cricket, Campher’s achievement is the first of its kind at the professional level. It places the 26-year-old all-rounder in a unique position in cricket’s long and storied history.
With this iconic performance, Campher may have strengthened his case for a future return to the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League. His name now joins the sport’s most memorable milestones—proving once again that cricket is full of surprises.
In a game that celebrates individual brilliance and unforgettable moments, Curtis Campher’s five-ball destruction is a rare jewel that will be remembered for years to come.
