48,000 Cars Above Parking Capacity Entered Murree on Independence Day

Murree Sees Record 53,000 Vehicles on Independence Day – Traffic Police Issue Safety Advisory

Murree, August 14, 2025

The popular hill station of Murree witnessed a massive tourist influx on Independence Day, with over 53,000 vehicles entering the city — far exceeding its 5,000-car parking capacity.

According to the City Traffic Police Murree, more than 200 traffic officers were deployed to manage the extraordinary rush. While thousands of vehicles arrived, many tourists stayed only briefly, resulting in 6,000–9,000 cars present in the city at any given time.

Strict Traffic Measures in Place

To ensure safety and smooth traffic flow:

  • Driving licenses were checked at entry points.

  • Motorcyclists without helmets were denied entry.

  • Mall Road access was restricted to families only.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Waseem Akhtar and Traffic Officer Murree Sohail Shahzad personally supervised the arrangements. Despite the high volume, all main roads remained open and functional throughout the day.

Crowds Cause Minor Delays

Heavy pedestrian movement at GPO Chowk led to occasional congestion. Tourists were urged to:

  • Park only in designated areas

  • Avoid double-lane driving

  • Follow traffic rules strictly

Traffic wardens patrolled continuously to prevent violations and maintain smooth vehicle flow. Awareness pamphlets were also distributed to promote safe driving practices.

Monsoon Season Travel Advisory

Given the ongoing monsoon rains, the CTO advised visitors to:

  • Check vehicle fitness and wiper/lights before travel

  • Use suitable vehicles for hilly terrain

  • Avoid speeding or overtaking on slippery roads

  • Respect one-way traffic rules

He also reminded tourists that all roads in Murree are two-way, and parking for photography on the roadside causes traffic disruptions. Cooperation with traffic wardens was strongly encouraged for a safer and more enjoyable trip.
