Arshad Nadeem Withdraws from Switzerland Event to Prioritize Recovery and Training in UK
Pakistan’s Olympic star Arshad Nadeem has officially withdrawn from the upcoming World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event in Switzerland, scheduled for July 15, due to a minor injury concern.
The javelin thrower, who brought home Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic medal in athletics, was expected to make his return at the Swiss event as part of his preparation for the World Athletics Championships in September and the Paris Olympics next year. However, Arshad confirmed that he will now head directly to the United Kingdom for a focused training camp.
“I have skipped the event in Switzerland,” Arshad Nadeem said. “I’ll now be heading to London on July 14 for training. During my recent sessions here, I experienced tightness in my calf muscle, and I didn’t want to risk aggravating it. That’s why I decided to withdraw.”
The decision has been made with long-term goals in mind. Arshad’s next competition will be the Diamond League event in Poland on August 16, followed by the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. These competitions are seen as key stepping stones toward his ultimate goal — the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The 27-year-old also pointed to Pakistan’s weather conditions as a factor in his decision to train abroad.
“The weather in Pakistan is very hot, and with the monsoon season starting, training conditions have become quite difficult,” he explained. “In England, the climate is more suitable, and I’ll be able to train better and recover properly.”
Arshad Nadeem will be joined by his coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, during the training stint in the UK. The camp is aimed at fine-tuning his performance and ensuring he stays injury-free ahead of a packed competitive calendar.
With the Paris Olympics just over a year away, every decision counts. For Pakistan’s leading athletics medal hope, staying fit and reaching peak form at the right time remains the top priority. Arshad’s careful planning and commitment underline his determination to bring further glory to Pakistan on the world stage.
