BJP, ECI involved in ‘vote theft’, alleges Rahul Gandhi

Rahul Gandhi Accuses BJP and Election Commission of ‘Treason’ Over Alleged Vote Rigging

India’s Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has once again accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Election Commission of India (ECI) of colluding to manipulate elections — calling the alleged vote rigging an act of “treason,” The News reported.

In a video message shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the Congress leader expanded on his earlier claims of electoral fraud, naming additional states where he alleged irregularities took place.

“Vote theft is not just an electoral scam; it is a major betrayal committed against the constitution and democracy. Let the nation’s culprits hear this — times will change, punishment will surely be meted out,” Gandhi said.

Fresh Allegations of Election Irregularities
Gandhi’s statement followed a meeting of the opposition INDIA alliance on Thursday, where he described the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as a “huge criminal fraud.”

Citing a survey conducted in Karnataka, he alleged six major irregularities:

  • Multiple entries for the same voter

  • Duplicate registrations across states

  • False addresses on voter records

  • Clusters of bulk voters registered at single residences

  • Blurred or unclear photographs on voter IDs

  • Misuse of Form 6 (used to register first-time voters)

He also accused the ECI of designing a “choreographed schedule” for upcoming state assembly polls in collaboration with the BJP and claimed the commission refused to provide digital copies of voter rolls.

Election Commission Hits Back
The Election Commission rejected Gandhi’s remarks, calling them an “absurd analysis” and urging him to substantiate his claims with a sworn declaration.

“If Rahul Gandhi believes in his analysis and his allegations against the Election Commission are true, he should have no problem signing the declaration. If he refuses, it would mean he does not believe in his own claims and should apologise to the nation,” Indian media quoted ECI sources as saying.

The war of words has added another flashpoint to India’s political scene, setting the stage for an even more charged atmosphere ahead of upcoming state elections.
