Breaking Traffic Rules in Lahore About to Get Much Harder

Lahore Safe City Cameras Upgraded with Advanced Technology

In a major step toward modernizing security, authorities have announced that all Safe City cameras in Lahore are being upgraded with facial recognition and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology.

According to officials, nearly 8,000 cameras across the city are currently undergoing software upgrades. Once completed, the system will help ensure quicker action on traffic violations and allow better monitoring of security concerns.

Previously, only a limited number of cameras were equipped with advanced features—around 600 for facial recognition and 1,100 for e-challan services. With the new upgrades, every camera will soon be fully functional with the latest technology.

Officials added that the entire upgrade process is being carried out using the Safe Cities Authority’s own resources. They further noted that similar modern systems are already operational in other cities, and Lahore’s transition is expected to be completed in the near future.
