Islamabad Hit by Flash Floods: Car Swept Away in Disturbing Incident as Rain Batters Twin Cities
ISLAMABAD, July 22 — As relentless monsoon rains continue to impact large parts of Pakistan, especially from Gilgit Baltistan to Islamabad, dramatic footage has emerged showing the devastating effects of flash flooding and landslides.
One particularly distressing incident occurred in a private housing society in Islamabad, where a vehicle carrying two individuals was swept away into a storm drain. A widely circulated video shows the car drifting uncontrollably in floodwaters, highlighting the dangerous force of nature during the ongoing weather crisis.
🛑 Search and Rescue Operation Underway
Authorities have identified the individuals in the vehicle as Colonel (retd) Ishaq Qazi and his 25-year-old daughter. According to initial reports, the retired officer was attempting to drive through a waterlogged street when the vehicle stalled and was quickly overcome by rising floodwaters.
Rescue 1122 and local authorities launched an immediate search operation. Helicopter surveillance is being used in the Soan Bridge and Gorakhpur areas, where the storm drain connects to the Soan River. Emergency personnel remain on high alert, with DG Rescue 1122 overseeing operations at the site.
🌧️ Rainfall Stats and Flooding Impact
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) reported significant rainfall in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, contributing to the flash floods:
-

-
Golra: 22mm
-
Shamsabad: 14mm

🛠️ CDA’s Emergency Response in Action
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has activated a city-wide emergency plan, with 24/7 monitoring teams, drainage clearance operations, and rapid-response crews working around the clock.
“Our top priority is preparedness and prevention,” said CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa. “We’re coordinating with all departments to ensure immediate response to any flooding emergency.”
To facilitate citizen support, the CDA has introduced a dedicated helpline (1334) and a central control room for quick complaint resolution. Residents facing water accumulation, blocked drains, or sewer issues are encouraged to report immediately.
📢 Stay Safe
Authorities are urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain and to stay updated via official weather and emergency bulletins.
