Cardinals’ Willson Contreras Leaves Game After Being Hit by Pitch
St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Willson Contreras exited Tuesday night’s game against the Colorado Rockies at the end of the fifth inning after suffering a right foot contusion from a pitch in the fourth.
Contreras was struck by an 82.9 mph fastball from Rockies starter Kyle Freeland, visibly frustrated as he slammed and broke his bat while walking to first base. He initially remained in the game but was replaced by Nolan Gorman to start the sixth inning.
This season, Contreras has been hit by a league-high 18 pitches, trailing only Randy Arozarena and Ty France. Despite the injury, he continues to lead the Cardinals with 16 home runs and 65 RBIs.
